Ma Yongping was born in Beijing in 1958. He studied art at the
Zhejiang Fine Arts Institute and China Central Handcrafts and
Fines Arts University. he is a member of the Beijing Artist
Association and Art Editor for a China Newspaper. His painting have been shown
in Canada, France, Hong Kong, Thailand and other countries. His name can be found in China
Modern Artists Directory (Shanghai Fine Arts Publishing House), Who Is
Who of Contemporary Chinese Artists (China International
Broadcast Publishing House), and World Who
Is Who: China Volume (Hongkong).
Mr. Ma has a distinctive style and has mastered his
medium and technique to a degree that few other Eastern artists have
achieved. This is demonstrated by the paintings displayed here. The material
Ma Yongping uses is a kind of natural mineral material, combining with the
traditional Chinese painting paper. The Dunhuang Frescoes made by this kind
of material has a history of over one thousand year. So far, they are still
brilliant. Maybe the same will be true for Ma's works. His themes have been typically
of traditional Chinese culture and religion (Buddhist) and provide the Western
intellect with a new and inspired insight to this ancient Eastern philosophy.
